Clove buds essential oil is a strong antiseptic oil for airborne bacteria and can be sued for the skin and gums, although it must be used heavily diluted. Clove oil is a very potent and should be used with care. It has stimulating properties for the mind, it supports healthy gums, and it is very useful when suffering from a toothache, relieving pain in arthritis and rheumatism, eases respiratory problems and digestion. The aroma of this oil reminds the smell associated with dental preparations. Clove also has a long history in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was an important spice and is still used in perfumes, wines and liqueurs, dental products. It can be a dermal irritant and sensitizer, so skin application is not recommended.

Method of Extraction: Steam distillation of the buds

Color: Yellow, pale yellow

Aroma: Warm, spicy, woody with a hint of floral sweetness

Yield: 0.5% - 1.0%

Blends well with:  Bergamot, chamomile, clary sage, geranium, ginger, grapefruit, jasmine, lavender, lemon, mandarin, palmarosa, rose, sandalwood, vanilla, ylang-ylang

HOW TO USE

Burn 2-3 drops every 5 hours when used as antibacterial or stimulant. It has an overpowering aroma so we recommend blending Clove buds with citrus oils.

Add 0.5  drop each 10 ml of carrier oil or cream or gel as muscle warming cream, or to disinfect acne. (PS use a toothpick to get half a drop).

In the case of a toothache or inflamed gums:

  • 1 drop of Clove diluted in 2-3 ml of Sweet Almond oil and rub on the gum once a day or *
  • 1-2 drops to a bowl of hot water, soak a small towel, wring out and apply on the cheek once a day or *
  • Mouthwash (do NOT ingest) 1 drop of clove bud to water, stir and use 2-3 times a day *

Can be a skin irritant and sensitizer - please skin patch test and most importantly never use neat or in dilutions higher than 1%. Avoid during pregnancy and if suffering from epilepsy.
